The rationales behind North Korean foreign policy

ByHAN S. PARK

The policy of any of the neighbouring states towards North Korea (the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, DPRK) should be based first and foremost on a realistic and in-depth understanding of North Korea’s own overall policy orientations and its specific policy strategies and tactics towards the neighbouring states. The purpose of this chapter, therefore, is to shed light on North Korea itself and its government’s policy dispositions for dealing with the neighbouring states, including Japan, China, South Korea and the United States.
