Together with direct democracy and federalism, Swiss neutrality is, as Dardanelli has already noted, one of the three central principles through which the political life of Switzerland has been organized for decades and even centuries. And, while direct democracy and federalism shape the structure and organization of Swiss domestic politics, neutrality has long been said to guide Switzerland’s foreign politics and its relationship with the rest of the globe.
