Electronic waste and dematerialisation
There is clear evidence that information and communication technology (ICT) is transforming our society into an information society. That is, a society where the access to information and information services, accumulated knowledge and learning opportunities is fast, cheap and efficient, and can be done without any significant spatial and temporal constraints (Castells, 2000). This modification is having a strong influence on human behaviour, and the changes induced can have a significant effect on the environment (Jokinen et al., 1998). Since the environmental issues are one of the central aspects in our future, we need a better understanding of this relationship between the development of the ICT and the environment.
