ABSTRACT
The central tenet of preventive medicine is regarded as the eradication, or at least avoidance, of risk factors. This requires the identification of those under risk for the purposes of monitoring, education or treatment. Therefore epidemiology is seen as the science of research on risk factors and the scientific basis for prevention.
