Action Research and Feminism
Our study began with Xavier Preparatory High School seeking our help with action research; administrators wanted useful data for preparing for the entrance of young women and the effects of their presence on the heretofore all-male learning environment. At the same time, two other high schools wanted to understand the change to coeducation because they would be affected significantly. With two high schools making a change to coeducation and the third affirming its commitment to all-female education, we thought we could provide practical help. Above all, we wanted to seize this unique research opportunity to learn more about gender in single-sex and coeducational schools.
