ABSTRACT

Internet trends over the short term have experienced fundamentally different types of shifts in direction and industry expectations. At first, the business community did not know what to make of this far-reaching technology. Before too long, everyone — organizations and individuals alike — wanted a personal Web presence with lots of contact with Internet users. Comments such as “How would you like to have 1 million customers visiting your store every day?” were often repeated and always added to the passion that fueled the Internet frenzy. Almost any idea that dealt with the Internet was believed to be brilliant and worthy of a multimillion dollar investment.
