ABSTRACT

There exists a perception that there are benign viruses and malignant viruses. Considering that any type of virus typically causes a computer to perform abnormally, whether it results in damage or not, this author finds it difficult to class a virus as benign. However, the majority of viruses are harmless and do no real damage to a computer or files. A benign virus might do nothing more than display a message at a predetermined time or slow down the performance of a computer.
