ABSTRACT

Essential to one’s appreciation of gas issues and options is an understanding of the general history, supply, and demand for this fuel. The most successful challenge to oil is natural gas for all of the same but even greater competitive advantages ascribed to the earlier greater attraction of oil over coal. Natural gas has become in many situations the preferred fuel source for all economic sectors except, perhaps, in heavy industry. Natural gas is often produced simultaneously with oil for they are often found together. Of all the forms in which gas is traded, liquefied natural gas (LNG) may have the smallest prospects. Great advances in the technology and laying of undersea gas pipelines allows for the linking of supplies and markets thus rendering LNG trade even less attractive. Best known for its convenient fuel storage tanks for single dwellings and light consumer production, Liquefied Petroleum Gas is a small percentage share of free world gas consumption: 10 percent.
