Recombination in Plant RNA Viruses
ByChikara Masuta
Pages 22

The greal majority of plant viruses are positive-sense RNA viruses depending on the virus-encoded RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (replicase) for RNA replication. RNA viruses thus undergo rapid genetic change because of the high error rate of viral replicalion, resulting in heterogeneous populations of related RNA sequences (Simon and Bujarski. 1994; Rubio et al.. I°99). Furthermore, RNA viruses containing segmented genomes have the advantage of reassonment of the RNA segments.
