The molecular epidemiology of whitefly-transmitted geminiviruses in genus Begomovirus (family Geminiviridae) has attracted much recent attention owing to the growing recognition of their importance. Geminiviruses have become important deterrents to the production of food and industrial crops during the past twenty years, as cropping practices have changed to meet the growing demand for agricultural commodities (Brown. 1990, 1994, 2001: Brown and Bird, 1992).
