ABSTRACT

A recent investigation shows that nanoparticles (NPs) based on nanotechnology widely preferred over conventional drug delivery system to conquer the challenges in it. New inclination in nanotechnology is nanoplex formulation, design, and development. The cationic and anionic charge on drug nanoparticle with oppositely charged polyelectrolytes as a dextran sulfate is an essential component of nanoplex complex formation. The enormous literature reveals that the nanoplex shows better efficiency as compared to other NPs. Nanoplex has noteworthy benefits over other NPs such as ease of preparation, cost-effective and minimal requirement of sophisticated instruments with less number of solvents. One of the additional benefits of nanoplex is enhancing the solubility of BCS Class II and Class IV drugs. Characterization of nanoplex formulation is done by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), x-ray diffraction and dialysis studies. Production yield, complexation efficiency, drug loading, particle size, and zeta potential are some of the evaluation parameters of nanoplex. Nanoplex shows ample of applications including the drug delivery of protein and peptides, Drug targeting in cancer treatment, Enhancement of solubility and dissolution rate, Drug delivery to the brain, nasal, and Nanoplex for gene delivery. The key components of the chapter are preparation, mechanism, features, evaluation parameters, and applications of nanoplex.
