ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises the ‘journey’ of the book, giving an overview of what has emerged about best practice in relational care and the questions it raises. What does the concept say about understanding the value of older people and the challenges of appreciating and implementing relational care and measuring what matters to people? How will society address the challenges? It summarises briefly the history of recent and current UK policy and explores the funding models for purchase and delivery of care and how these affect providers and recipients of care. What might be the impact of prioritising relational care on older people, carers, care providers and policy, and what actions can these parties take that will improve current and future lives?
