ABSTRACT

A number of industrial applications of boiling in compact heat exchangers are examined, to identify features particular to these applications, and to the exchanger geometries, which need to be taken into account in boiling heat transfer calculations. Particular emphasis is given to recent developments of compact heat exchangers Some existing methods for calculating boiling heat transfer coefficients are then reviewed, to identify how they can be adapted for use with compact heat exchangers. A number of areas of uncertainty remain, in predicting the boiling performance of compact heat exchanger in industrial use.
