ABSTRACT

In the present investigation, the effects of wall superheat and flow velocity on the nucleation characteristics of cavities of different radii have been experimentally determined for flow boiling of subcooled water near atmospheric pressure in a narrow 3 mm × 50 mm rectangular channel. The study has been conducted with high speed video camera obtaining pictures at a maximum rate of 6000 frames per second. The natural cavities present on a polished aluminum surface serve as nucleation sites.
