ABSTRACT

In this chapter, administrators learn how to utilize special educators as leaders of collaboration. In the school environment, special educators support student outcomes and community relations. Through understanding how to model collaboration, identifying collaborative spaces within school buildings, designing co-teaching teams for year to year looping, building collaboration time into school-wide schedules, and providing high-quality professional development, administrators deepen their knowledge of a school-wide systems change. This chapter stimulates a growth mindset steeped in collaborative practices. With a strong foundation of teaming processes that create a school-wide culture of collaboration, administrators understand the role that special educators can play in overall school improvement and community and school relations.
