The author of this narrative details what can happen—and what to do—when the topic of discussion in the classroom or individual meetings can trigger unpleasant memories and feelings for students. Specifically, involvement in an abusive relationship can precipitate complex, traumatic, and hard-to-predict reactions from both traditional and nontraditional students.
