ABSTRACT
The author describes her encounter with a potentially suicidal student. Included in the narrative are not only her efforts to deal directly with the immediate needs of the student, but also her ancillary professional responsibilities and obligations when a student indicates they may be contemplating ending their life. The author also reflects on the need for consulting with other faculty and training for faculty to work with students in distress.
