ABSTRACT

Aluminum and its alloys, due to their excellent properties, have proved their application in several engineering domains. Among metal matrix composites (MMCs), aluminum and its alloys have emerged with special attention. The aluminum metal matrix has variety of applications with desired combinations due to the inclusion of copper, zinc, and magnesium elements in it. MMCs with different aluminum alloy combinations have a pivotal role in the fields of aviation and automobile domain due to their high strength to weight ratio and better fuel economy. For achieving proficient and desired mechanical properties like better corrosion resistance and wear, low coefficient of expansion, toughness, machinability and ductility, aluminum alloys are mainly used alongside a number of reinforcements. In this current work, AA 2024 was contrasted with 25-micron greenish 246silicon carbide ceramic particles and chopped E-glass reinforced fibers producing hybrid composites by stir casting followed by joining, carried with friction stir welding with low welding parameters. Research work focuses on evaluation of fretting wear characteristic of welded base and composites plates with linear reciprocating tribometer with variable load condition due to ceramic particulates in composite and nugget of weld part exhibits lower wear rate and result was tabulated.
