ABSTRACT

The Serials Department at Iowa State University (ISU) consisted of three sections: Serials Acquisitions, Serials Cataloging, and Serials Processing. Even though serials are no longer handled in one department at ISU, these three sections still exist, and the serials workflow, procedures, and communication patterns have changed little. The Serials Acquisitions Section orders, receives, and claims serial publications, while the Serials Cataloging Section catalogs and recatalogs them. The Serials Processing Section performs binding, Serials Catalog production/distribution, location/holdings changes, and volume preparation. At ISU, the im portance of serials continues to be recognized.
