Introduction

Why a book on European environmental governance? Rather, why one more book on European environmental governance? And most of all why this book? By answering these straightforward questions in this introduction, we aim to directly enter at the core of the project contained in this edited volume: to present the knowledge and expertise of key academics and practitioners on European environmental policies as they stand in 2020, just before the outbreak of the coronavirus, with their successes and limits. After answering these three straightforward questions, therefore introducing the topic and its importance, we also explain the special format of the volume and the content of its different chapters.
