ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the principles of Quality-by-Design (QbD) and their contributions to the background of the design of experiments in different transdermal/topical nanoformulations. The implementation of the QbD approach in the transdermal/topical formulation is the key enabler of assuring quality in the final product. The optimization processes are required for accurate research in these fields and therefore, the right implementation is carried out for different design approaches at an industrial scale. Transdermal drug delivery has made an impressive contribution to medical practice but has yet to achieve its potential as a go-to alternative to oral delivery and hypodermic injection. Its non-invasive mode of administration and ease of self-administered represents an attractive alternative to oral delivery of drugs. The pharmaceutical sector is a process-based and quality-oriented industry, thus it was expected that the aforementioned paradigms will be adapted soon after their introduction.
