ABSTRACT

Quality by Design (QbD) is an approach encouraged by regulatory bodies and applied by pharmaceutical industries to improve the quality of the final product. The objective of this chapter is to describe via a QbD approach to increase the available knowledge of ocular formulation. Many ocular drug delivery systems have been intensively explored by using the QbD approach by many researchers. The anatomical barriers and physiological conditions of the eye are also important parameters that control the designing of novel drug delivery systems. There are various QbD-based nanosized ocular drug delivery carriers like micelle, liposome, lipid nanoparticle, polymeric nanoparticles approach that have been developed for this purpose. These novel systems offer manifold advantages over conventional systems as they increase the efficiency of drug delivery by improving the release profile and also reduce drug toxicity.
