ABSTRACT

Many lose sight of the fact that women’s studies has a global nature. Too frequently the common perception is that it is the reserve of a limited number of white women in North America and Western Europe. Indeed, women’s studies endeavors to encompass women of all ages, classes, races, cultures, and sexual preferences, no matter where they happen to live. The existence of women’s studies programs and institutes in several countries outside North America and Europe (such as India, Japan and Lebanon) attests to that fact.
