ABSTRACT

Research that explores the experiences of women who have a disability in sport and physical activity research has burgeoned in recent times. Women and girls with disabilities are likely to experience exclusion and marginalisation in sport due to both being female and having a disability. In this chapter we draw on a feminist disability studies lens to explore the motivations for participation for women and girls with a disability; the barriers for participation for women and girls with a disability; and provide ‘real-world’ examples of sport programming that supports greater inclusion and engagement of women and girls with disabilities in the province of British Columbia (Canada).
