ABSTRACT

Data analytics is a hot topic in sport that has captured the attention of practitioners, policy makers and researchers. Statistical modelling and sport business analytics are distinct areas of sport management. Technological innovations and mobile commerce have made the use of statistics integral to the sport industry. In this chapter, we discuss recent developments in statistics and data analytics in the sport context with a view to analysing what the future holds. This is important considering the contribution business analytics has made to the way sport is viewed and consumed. We also highlight potential avenues for future practice around statistical modelling and how the internet of things will affect this change.
