ABSTRACT

Outdoor adventure education (OAE) programs need well informed and highly effective instructors to meet the evolving demands in society. Positive outcomes of outdoor adventure programs depend on the efficacy of the facilitation process. This study sought to assess outdoor instructors’ perceived facilitation efficacy in outdoor adventure programs in Kenya. The study performed statistical analysis by use of a mixed method approach in data collection and analysis to appropriately arrive at the conclusions of the outdoor instructors’ perceived facilitation efficacy. The study adopted an instructor effectiveness questionnaire and interview as its two data collection tools to collect data. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 21 for quantitative data and NVivo 9 for qualitative data. The study further reiterated the need to formulate ideal guidelines for selecting class size depending on outdoor environment, age, maturity, occupation and experience of the participants over solely depending on internationally set regulations.
