ABSTRACT

Over the past 30 years, academics have increasingly come to realize that knowledge is one of the primary resources needed for organizational effectiveness in the contemporary business landscape. In the spirit of trying to understand how businesses could harness the diverse knowledge available to them, scholars have developed the domain of knowledge management. Based on a thorough review and analysis of existing literature, this chapter introduces the concept of knowledge management and provides an overview of what has been done in extant research until now. Consequent to this analysis, the chapter provides a roadmap of the knowledge management domain, as well as the basis for practitioners to be guided by and scholars to further build on.
