ABSTRACT

There is a crucial need for a theoretical foundation and pedagogy that contribute to transformative education for sustainability. Stibbe argues for a theory-to-practice approach that engages students in critically examining dominant discourses of an unjust and unsustainable culture that influence perception and action in the world. While exploring the role of language in shaping social cognition, students construct a values framework called an “ecosophy” that informs new stories they create. Such stories have the potential to develop students’ ethical leadership to transform self and society.
