Short-term Solution Focused group intervention for refugee torture survivors
A four-session group intervention was developed in an effort to help trauma and torture survivors and their family members among Syrian and other Middle Eastern and African asylum seekers coming to Europe. The intervention was developed using Solution-Focused principles and methods to help torture survivors deal with traumatic experiences in their home country and during migration. This group intervention puts an emphasis on integrating survivors’ experiences and empowering them to move forward to a new life in reception countries in the European Union. The chapter includes the elements of each session and what seems to be working well so far. Preliminary data on outcomes from a sample of 189 participants in three countries, Croatia, Austria and Germany, are presented.
