ABSTRACT

This chapter honours the work of Peter De Jong and Insoo Kim Berg by highlighting ways to Listen, Select and Build solutions with children’s verbal and play language. The toys and play activities chosen in Solution Focused Play Therapy serve the preferred future rather than an interpretation of behaviour. Session transcripts and side tips allow the reader to imagine how they might apply the principles to their own work. Tools for listening and talking with children that are helpful, playful and future-focused are discussed, along with specific examples of play activities to facilitate solution-building with children and families.
