ABSTRACT

The eighties will be full of challenges and dangers, but they will also be full of opportunities and hopes. Hopes, because there are also paths that lead out of danger. If we miss them the outcome could be fatal, but we have the capacity to think ahead, to pose the right questions. We also have the courage to give the necessary answers, and we shall mark those paths and we shall follow them. It will not be a decade for those who take the wrong road but it may be our own hour of success if we steer a clear course. In recent years we have made considerable progress in this direction. We can stand comparison with other industrial countries. In the last ten years we have undertaken a large-scale restructuring of our industry to make it less harmful to the environment, and to conserve energy.
