ABSTRACT

A 4-year-old boy with functional constipation and episodes of fecal impaction beginning at 2 months of age comes to clinic for evaluation. He has just started potty training, has one bowel movement per week, and his parents have noted some blood in the stool with pain on defecation. The parents have previously tried 1 capful (17 g) of polyethylene glycol 3350 daily with no change in his stooling pattern, and currently he is not on any bowel regimen.
