ABSTRACT

A 13-year-old male with a history of Hirschsprung disease is referred to your clinic. The patient has total colonic Hirschsprung disease (TCHD) with a transition in the terminal ileum. The patient did well in his first year of life after the creation of a diverting ileostomy in the newborn period. When he was about 1 year old, he underwent a colectomy and a straight endorectal pull-through. Pathology confirmed the original diagnosis of TCHD. One year after pull-through, the patient suffered from frequent episodes of enterocolitis, which required daily colonic irrigations, 3 episodes of intravenous fluid treatment for dehydration, and antibiotics.
