ABSTRACT

This chapter focusses on the presentation of the research findings, putting into use the analytical framework developed. The analysis of crisis-related news published in the Greek newspapers Ta Nea and I Kathimerini identified two overarching discourses of legitimation - objectivation and naturalisation - that relate to the dual factual/narrative logic of news. This chapter explains how the two discourses and their mechanisms are used to legitimate or delegitimate the authority positions of the actors involved and of journalists themselves, and validate the hegemonic ideologies over the economic crisis and its handling.
