ABSTRACT

SAFETY OF ULTRASONOGRAPHY The main concern about the safety of ultrasound is based on tissue temperature elevation from energy transfer and its possible effect of cavitations, or the formation of microbubbles in the tissues exposed to ultrasound waves. The effect of ultrasound on tissues has been studied with animal experimentation and has suggested an adverse effect. In humans, however, the information comes from epidemiological data and population studies. No epidemiological studies have shown harmful effects in humans.
