ABSTRACT

The mathematics and actuarial science department at Butler University is capitalizing on the educational opportunities afforded by puzzles and games. Longtime Martin Gardner devotee and puzzle and games expert Jeremiah P. Farrell, professor emeritus, has provided the expertise and inspiration for students and faculty to enjoy learning new and easily accessible mathematics. Games are being used to entice prospective mathematics majors, to introduce mathematics majors to undergraduate research, and as a vehicle for an outreach program with the Indiana School for the Blind.
