ABSTRACT
Abstract. This is a somewhat comprehensive study of compactly supported scaling functions and wavelets. While many papers have already been written recently on various problems in this subject, this paper is intended to give a systematic treatment as well as to report on our recent results on asymptotically optimal time-frequency localization by symmet ric totally positive scaling functions (STOPLETS) and their corresponding completely oscillating wavelets (COWLETS).
