Forrester would be gone in a year. Valley left the very next year to be chief scientist for the Air Force. Everett checked out a year later. Th e following year, January of 1959, the bright boys would split up forever. Some remained behind at Lincoln Laboratory to continue on in high-tech electronics, some left to seek new horizons elsewhere, and still others migrated a few miles away to join Everett at the newly formed MITRE Corporation to work the air defense contract for the Air Force. Th e partings were mixed. Many times as a technology matures and moves into wider acceptance, its originators and developers get chilled out of the fl ow of things. Th ey lose control. Th ey then move on or are moved out. Also, too long their own bosses, the aspect of heeling to new management and administrative masters was something some would never abide.
