ABSTRACT

This study examined the effects of the introduction of a handheld tablet computer to the productivity enhancement in medical practice. When the medical staff refers to patient information in medical practice, they usually access the information system such as electronic health record by use of fixed special terminal. For the medical staff who provides medical care in unfixed space, to reach a fixed special terminal decrease their productivity in order to get patient information each time. Therefore, we developed the system that the medical staff is able to refer to patient information everywhere by use of a handheld tablet computer. This system use the environment of wireless local area network (WLAN) in the hospital, and it can get information on the actual location of the handheld tablet computer. To investigate the effects of the introduction of this system, the estimated behavior of the medical staff from their location was compared with the behavior before the introduction of this system.
