ABSTRACT

Targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) is an exciting new approach to improving prosthetic function for people who have had upper limb amputations. However, it requires a significant surgery, a long postsurgical reinnervation period, and a fairly intensive program of prosthetic fitting and training. The unique complexities associated with this process should be taken into careful consideration during both candidate selection and the rehabilitation of patients who have undergone TMR.
