ABSTRACT

In the recent years I have been working a lot with patterns and shapes used in abstract imagery. One of the fascinating aspects of these pictures is that it’s the single bits and pieces they are built from, the ‘particles’ if you will, that are interesting, more than the design and execution of the picture as a whole. They interact with each other in different ways, and by changing even the smallest variable, the whole perception of the image can be altered in a most dramatic way. This is especially true for repeating patterns, and even though the image I have submitted for this book is not repeating, I think the parable is still valid. I could have changed the way these triangles are juxtaposed in an infinite number of ways, and still the picture would not have been ‘finished’. There is no right or wrong way to combine them, but as the artist I get the last say. In this way, I feel like my work sometimes parallels that being done on the nanoscale.
