ABSTRACT

The geographic distribution of yellow perch and European perch (Perca fl avescens and P. fl uviatilis, respectively) naturally overlaps with some of the most productive industrial regions in the world. Over the past decade or so, these two species have received an increasing amount of research attention by ecotoxicologists and freshwater ecologists. These species, given their sedentary and non-migratory lifestyle and their considerable tolerance to environmental contaminants-, especially metals, have demonstrated their value as environmental sentinels.
