ABSTRACT

A review of the literature relating to shoulder and elbow surgery will testify to the bewildering number of outcome measures and scoring systems that are available to the orthopaedic surgeon undertaking research. Unfortunately, it is within the boundaries of clinical research where the use of outcome measures invariably stops, with few surgeons being sufficiently pro-active as to use them in their dayto-day clinical practice.
