ABSTRACT

Gastrostomy is a technique that enables the delivery of enteral nutrition directly into the stomach. It was originally performed as an open procedure. With advances in endoscopy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) has become the procedure of choice. Improvements in gastrostomy tube technology mean that current tubes are made of materials that are more durable, softer, easier to use and cause less irritation of the surrounding tissues than their predecessors.
