ABSTRACT

In the original paper of Thal, two different techniques are described. The first is an operation to repair a distal esophageal stenosis. The esophagus and gastric fundus are mobilized, the esophagus is incised longitudinally at the level of the stenosis and the gastric fundus is used to bridge the defect in a manner that prevents gastric reflux. In this process the serosa of the fundus becomes the inner wall of the esophagus.
