Partial or total organ conservation is a major consideration in splenic surgery because of the long-term risks of postsplenectomy sepsis.
• Hematological disorders unresponsive to medical treatment.
• Traumatic injuries with life-threatening hemorrhage not amenable to repair or partial splenectomy.
