ABSTRACT
The outcome from TBI is primarily determined in the prehospital period. There is a direct correlation between the severity of the primary injury and the magnitude and frequency of secondary hypoxic and ischemic injuries. Primary and secondary injuries occur in parallel after initial impact and are independently associated with adverse outcome (Figure 14.1).
