ABSTRACT

Secondary injury, may begin at or very close to the impact. Asphyxia or massive blood loss may cause overwhelming ischemic-hypoxic secondary damage, irrespective of the severity of the primary injury. However the distinction between primary and secondary injury, although somewhat arbitrary has clinical value and this chapter will concentrate on two of the main clinical end points used in managing the secondary effects of injury, CPP and ICP (Chambers et al., 2000).
