ABSTRACT

Compression therapy is the basic treatment modality in venous leg ulcers. It has been shown to be effective in healing venous ulcers and in preventing their recurrence.1-5 However, the underlying venous pathology should always be established by investigation of the vascular system. Surgical treatment or sclerotherapy may be indicated to correct superficial or perforating vein incompetence. The reasons for the benefit of leg compression in venous disease have not yet been completely elucidated.6
