ABSTRACT
This symptom is one of the most common in patients with advanced cancer. The prevalence of xerostomia is affected by the patient’s performance status. For example, in one study, 61 per cent of the patients complained of a dry mouth on their first assessment by a palliative care team, whilst 70 per cent of the patients complained of this symptom in their last week of life.1
